<image:title>Blog - Four Tips for Living in an “Always-On” Culture</image:title>
<image:caption>I really believe that in the 21st century with our "always-on culture", the topic of time management is not as much about how we manage our time as it is how we manage our energy. Time and energy are linked together, but understanding where we are putting our energy really informs our time. The management of time was important in the Industrial Age. The management of our energy is what is essential in the Digital Age.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I’ve been taking a deep dive into my life lately and really trying to understand some emotional triggers. One of the things I have noticed is how fear has raised its ugly head more often than I would like. Honestly, it has caught me off guard on how I have been affected by fear later in life.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This week it will have been twelve years since my father passed away from Liver cancer. I can honestly say there has been no other event in my life to date that has changed me like the day I lost my Dad. Like many who have lost a loved one, the pain changed me in ways I didn’t expect, I didn’t ask for, or even seek out. This one event has forced me to engage in pain in ways I could never have imagined.</image:caption>

My disciplines are designed for me to live out my values and what is important to me. <image:caption>Running on empty might be our new normal, but it isn’t what God intended for us. Our soul craves something different. We know deep down in our souls that there must be something different than just surviving. When you and I are just surviving, we cannot dream. We need to dream. It is critical for all of us. Our souls needs to take a deep drink of hope from time to time. When we can imagine, we are able to create. When we create, we are inspired and, in turn, can inspire others.</image:caption>

As I read through the article, it really reminded me of something different. It reminded me of how a person might feel if they didn’t have their soul refreshed. <image:caption>What kind of battle are you fighting today? What type of habit is really draining you day after day? What is it in your life that you're needing to escape from? You may laugh, but a while back, my answer would have been drinking Pepsi. I love that stuff. For me, nothing went better with pizza, a good ‘ole bacon burger, or a snack, than a Pepsi. In fact, I was having soda almost everyday. I needed a change. Maybe you do too.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I’ve been thinking a lot about the term “servant leader” lately. I’m not sure why, but when I started a Google search, not much was coming up on what a servant leader looks like. Back in the late 90’s and early 00’s this was one of the buzz words in the non-profit sector. Now, I hardly ever hear much about the phrase “servant leader” used anymore in the mainstream leadership conversation. I think the term was overused and is now tired. The presence of a true servant leader in the workplace seems somewhat of a distant past.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - it starts with why</image:title>
<image:caption>When my kiddos were young, they would almost always be asked “why?” to every instruction I gave them. “Let’s go brush your teeth,” I’d say. Almost instantly, I would get “Why, Daddy?” This exercise was the same over and over about pretty much everything. It’s instinctive in us to ask why. Knowing the “why” is important for little ones and it’s even more important for us as adults.</image:caption>

You literally are unable to move without the help of another. Physically, your arms and legs simply cannot move. Your emotional capacity has been sitting on empty for months. Your heart has ached for so long and you have cried so hard that there are no more tears left to express the misery.</image:caption>

I go from being angry, to despair, to isolation, and back to “I have to do something.” My heart hurts because I see the hurts of others.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Welcome to my new website! I’ve been wanting to create an avenue of dialogue and coaching for some time now. I couldn’t think of a better day to launch Beyond Survival Coaching, then our families ‘Gotcha’ Day of Isaiah and Laila. My life has been drastically changed since my first trip to Swaziland, Africa back in August of 2006. Since then I have been to Africa eleven times, adopted to two children from Swaziland, launched a non profit and now launching this resource for leaders.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I’ve been thinking about this topic of having balance for weeks now. Mostly because it isn’t happening in my life and the thought of it is frustrating me. I am not sure if you can relate or not? Can I really experience balance in my life? Can you? If I am honest, I think the concept of “balance” in our life is a myth. I am not sure where the term came from or when it arrived on the scene in our society. However, I think I am coming to the conclusion that I do not believe I can achieve balance.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Eswatini - A Ministry of Presence - It's Time</image:title>
<image:caption>We have always dreamed of a time when we would take Isaiah and Laila back to Eswatini. This year, July 4th to 16th, we believe it is time for us to go back to where it all began. We have been praying about this window of time for many years. In fact, we were all set to go in 2020, and well you know what happened then. Now, it's different. Laila has expressed a desire to go back, but Isaiah does not feel ready. He isn't sure if he will ever want to return. We want to honor his journey and what he needs at this time, while also supporting Laila and her desire to return. We always dreamed that when our kids were ready to visit where they came from that we would go as a family. We know that as our family grows and changes the opportunities for this will be limited. This year, everyone is able to go with us! We want to seize the opportunity while it is available. We have no idea how this trip will go nor how it will affect us. However, we believe having the support and the presence of our family in this adventure is critical. So, this year is the year that the Clapp family has set their sights on experiencing Eswatini together to support Laila! We met as a family over Christmas break and followed up with each other at the end of January to confirm everyone was in and could get the time off. This was a fleece for us to see if God was leading all of us to go. We all have God's peace that this is the timing.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Eswatini - Full Circle Moments - Come with Us</image:title>
<image:caption>As you know that trip began a new trajectory for our family that has led to the creation of Beyond Survival, our adoption, and 19 years of ministry and friendship with the people of Swaziland, what is now called Eswatini. We could not have imagined what God would do through that encounter on July 4. Now, almost 19 years later, we are seeing God fulfill a dream of returning to Eswatini with our family and joining together to support Laila’s desire to visit and minister in her home country. So many of you have been with us through it all, supporting the work, sending supplies, praying for the needs, and even joining us on our trips. You have captured the vision and heart that God has given to Beyond Survival the work that we do. We want you to come with us. God is multiplying His work He called us to 19 years ago. He is stirring the hearts of His people, and we believe that this year’s trip will have a multiplying effect into the years ahead. We believe God is and has hand-picked those who will go on this mission trip. Your gifts, abilities, and talents will be invested in Eswatini. Will you pray about joining us July 4th to 16th? We recognize this trip is a moment in time that will forever mark our family. We believe it will mark yours as well. Not everyone can go or is called to go. We get that. So if you are unable to go but want to support this trip and our family, we invite you to join us through your prayers and funding to make this happen. We believe in God’s calling and provision and have seen him provide over and over throughout the years. He has continuously shown up and it feels significant that 19 years later after we learned of this country, we are at a place to lead our family back together. We invite you to go with us and experience this ministry. To receive information on how you can join our trip, email us at rick@beyondsurvival.org to get the trip overview. If you want to give towards this trip, you can do so by the link below. Thanks so much for loving us and praying for us. We are thrilled to see how God continues to write this His story on our hearts.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Eswatini - The Day our family was complete - It’s Almost Time…</image:title>
<image:caption>The miracles that He did to fulfill this calling are too many to list in this post. Bottom line, what God called us to, He equipped, empowered, and provided for. There is no doubt His hand was leading and guiding us. That does not mean it was an easy process. It was truly one of the most difficult paths to take with many obstacles and roadblocks along the way. Many of you know the challenges because you have journeyed with our family over the years. Today, as we remember all that God has done, we also look ahead to the next big milestone on this journey, our trip in July! We are thrilled to take Laila back as a family to see her homeland and to serve her people. She was almost 10 months old when we brought her home. She has no memories, but has heard the stories and seen the pictures from our many years of ministry in Eswatini. Just as we leaned into our faith for our adoption back in 2009, we are leaning into this next step, believing that God has orchestrated this opportunity for our family. We are trusting His provision in this process. So many of you have been with us along the way.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Eswatini - A dream is coming true... - Our dream is becoming a reality…</image:title>
<image:caption>Since 2006, when Beyond Survival began, Rick and I have been leading this ministry. We have taken over 120 people on mission’s trips to Eswatini. We have had a team as large as 36 all the way to a team of 2 and everything in between. Each team has a unique DNA to it. Each team is uniquely formed by God with unique roles to play. We have always designed our trips around the team that God sends us, seeking to utilize the gifts and strengths that are represented. No matter the size, every year, God has revealed his purpose for each person participating and why He brings who he brings. This year’s trip is a dream come true for us. Seeing our family serve together and watching our kids lead will be a very full circle moment from those early days when God began to burden our hearts for this small country in Africa. We have no idea all that God is going to do, but we believe He is in this, and He has a plan for this time. We believe God has already gone before us and stirred the hearts of His people to help us get to Eswatini, together. We have seen His hand of provision from the beginning. This whole mission, from the beginning, has been a faith journey. He has provided for every trip that we have led. He has supplied the resources to meet the many needs through Beyond Survival over the years. Now, we are trusting in His provision for this next step of faith that we are taking. Would you prayerfully consider helping our family financially get to Eswatini?</image:caption>

<image:title>Eswatini - One month away! - Pray for our partners</image:title>
<image:caption>We travel all over the country of Eswatini on our trips. There are a number of partnerships that we have established since we began in 2006. We want to highlight the work of these ministries and share the impact they are making. Please be in prayer for each one of our partners below: ABC Ministries – Beyond Survival has partnered with the Abandoned Babies for Christ ministries (www.abcministry.org.za) is a safe haven and emergency placement home for abandoned babies. Not only do we encourage those responsible for the home, we will also do any necessary repairs or projects, love on the children, and meet real needs. It is our hope that these children will soon have the opportunity to be adopted in the future. Care Point – This year we will be visiting a Mnconcwane Care Point. We will build new friendships by loving on the kids, encouraging leaders, and providing a fun day for the community. We will also be doing Home Visits to some families of the children. Halfway House – We will visit the home where our two adopted children were living. Each year we visit the children there, invest in the leaders, encourage them, and deliver much needed supplies. The Luke Commission – The Luke Commission(TLC) (www.lukecommission.org) offers comprehensive, compassionate health care to the underserved of Eswatini. We have the opportunity to invest in their leaders and encourage them through their current challenges. Aquaponics - We will be checking in on the aquaponics projects at Advocates of Hope(AOH) and Umdoni Farms in partnership with YWAM Emerge (https://www.ywamemerge.org). Umdoni Farms – We will be staying at Umdoni and learning about the vision and hope of this unique quest house and farm. Umdoni is the place for leadership training and equipping others to have a future. Training. We will provide leadership training with ministry partners. These will include TLC(The Luke Commission), AOH(Advocates of Hope), AIM(Adventures in Missions), PLG (Point Leaders Gathering). Advocates of Hope (AOH) – Leadership development is paramount in helping people get beyond survival circumstances. We partner with Advocates of Hope (https://www.advocatesofhope.org) to help train the next generation on our trips. They are building communities and breaking the cycle , one person at a time. Unity Gospel Foundation – Leadership training with the staff of this nonprofit organization that provides young people with comprehensive programs that cultivate skills, instill confidence, and ignite entrepreneurial spirit, enabling them to construct sustainable livelihoods and become architects of their futures. We believe God has special appointments for us on this trip and we can’t wait to discover them. We are grateful for your continued support and prayers as we pour out our heart, gifts, and resources into this special little country. Thanks for joining us on this journey. We are grateful for your friendship and partnership.</image:caption>
